There is an encouraging article written by the Project: Green Industry bloggers about the connection between an environmental based curriculum and increased test scores. The article references several U.S.A. based studies and new teaching methods which connect kids in the classroom with environmental issues. It encourages them to think about their communities, schools, and lives within a natural context. If you want to read more, check it out here: Schools look to get kids out of the classroom.

Excellent video on creating a backyard garden based on sustainability principles. This is a long video which shows how much can be done in one year's time. It is also a great example of how flowers, herbs, veggies, trees and shrubs can all be incorporated into one place to support both humans and nature. Rain water harvesting, bees, and low flow irrigation examples are explained as well.
