  1. our hummingbirds don't look like that. I have seen almost black ones and very very green ones. None with ruby on them yet.

    Wonderful shots!

  2. Just found your blog on Wordlesswednesday.com. LOVE IT! I graduated from University of Colorado in Boulder back in the Dark Ages (environmental biology. I'm now gardening in southern California, but I still miss Colorado. I've added you to my favorites.

  4. I just love hummingbirds. We have two species that live here year-round and other species that visit for only part of the year. I hope you have many visitors this year :-)

  5. Great photos ... hummingbirds are not a familiar part of our world, but your shots really show their beauty. I just love the brilliant green sheen on the back of hummingbird in that second photo.

Thanks for visiting my post on bathtime for wallabies ... glad you enjoyed the photos and the narrative.

  8. I rarely see hummingbirds here in the spring, but every summer they come by on their way south. Some arrive as early as July, but most come through August and September, with late stragglers into October. I always worry about them, for they are flying south across the Gulf during hurricane season. They are amazing, feisty birds.

  9. In our Black Hills garden we see hummingbirds in about July - I plant trumpet vines and red flowers. They stay a bit, but I think they are returning south. I love them - I enjoyed your map.

  10. I kept checking the map myself until the hummingbirds arrived. They amaze me.

  11. I am back. When your gardens are still contemplating to be fully blooming, your birds are already fluffing happily. I love your photos, especially those in the drinking station.

  12. Are they there yet? The Ruby Throats are here (that's usually the only kind we get). I'm looking forward to see how spring is progressing for you now. Surely it's started by now??

  13. I love your first two shots! Precious jewels. Ours returned a week ago or more. Always great to capture those first photos.

  14. Hi Kathy, I was checking out my old blog and came across your name on my followers' list. Thank you so much. I've moved to Wordpress now.

Your pictures and posts are wonderful! Hummingbirds are such beautiful birds. We have somewhat similar looking ones but they are sunbirds. I'll be here again.
I have a small patch and most of my plants are in containers. But the pleasure I get from observing (small) garden wildlife is immense.

    Happy gardening!
